The Children’s Discovery Centre
Stratford
Dannatt, Johnson worked initially with the Stratford Development Partnership and then with the ‘Children’s Discovery Centre’ to renovate and convert a late 19th century office and warehouse building into a new museum for children. The work also included a parallel development of space for the Newham Sixth form College (NewVIC) to provide teaching and crèche facilities. This development contributed to of the business plan for the development of the Discovery Centre itself.
The works for the Centre were designed to progress in a number of phases that allowed part of the project to open early while fundraising and construction works could follow in other areas.
The practice worked closely with exhibition designers and particularly with children’s focus groups from the local area to keep the locals population engaged in the project and provide spaces and facilities to inspire these young people.
