Performing Arts Centre, Northwood College

Northwood College, an independent school for girls in North West London had carried out a master planning exercise for the school development over ten years, Dannatt, Johnson were asked to review this and were commissioned to design a new music facility for the school.

In consultation with the school the architects developed the detailed design to incorporate the performing arts provision for the whole school including a large new drama studio and individual and group practice rooms, classrooms and a full orchestra recital room, together with staff and ancillary accommodation. All spaces achieve the high standards for acoustics in music facilities and provide the school with a significant new venue.

The new centre has been designed with a low pitched roof and with a horizontal emphasis to the elevations to respect the scale of the surrounding school buildings and semi rural quality of the site.
