Early Years Centre, Northwood College

Northwood College required a new early years facility for a 40 pupil intake in the reception year and to increase its nursery provision to a similar level. The practice explored options for the conversion and extension of an existing building and for a new building option. This study clearly demonstrated the economies of the new build approach which was then negotiated through the planning process.

The early years redevelopment encompassed provision of external play and teaching facilities and included a multi use all weather games area for the upper school on land that had previously been of limited use to Northwood College.

Completed in 2009, the new Early Years facility provides flexible class bases for reception and nursery, with small group teaching rooms, a new library staff accommodation and kitchen and ancillary facilities for the new building.
